“Along with abstract-inspired welded steel, I also work with casting aluminum, brass and copper in my foundry.”

About the Artist

Rik Luczka resides with his family on a piece of dirt northeast of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada.

Having a keen interest in art through his youth, Rik began sculpting in high school. His influences include artists such as Picasso, Van Gogh, David Smith, and Giacometti, along with local artists Douglas Bentham, and (the late) Bill Epp.

“I enjoy working with abstract styles mainly because it allows me to give the viewer my vision of what I see in shapes, textures, patterns and colours. Working with welded steel, cast aluminum, and cast bronze has kept me thinking of new ways of sculpting and I am always experimenting and having fun creating.”

Rik is not a “formally trained” artist, and he’s happy with that. While drinking Bohemian beers with Bill Epp, he said to Rik, “Keep making art your own way, not the way someone else is telling you how to create it and not to have someone else tell you what art is.”

Rik enjoys working on commission projects as long as the client is okay with his own personal expression/artistic freedom being incorporated.
